YAY! { Houston Newborn Photographer }

This blog has been a true labor of love for the last few weeks! I used my CISM degree from HBU to convert my blogger blog to a blog hosted on my website! It has been a LONG time since I have touched code so I was VERY rusty. But I am so happy that my clients and fans will no longer have to jump from my website to blogger just to read my updates. It is all nice and neatly in ONE place. I just had to celebrate my small victory! haha.

Over the next few weeks I am going to kick my newborn photography into high gear!! I am so excited about this! I have invested quite a bit of my earnings into new props for your sweet bundles of joy. Keep your eye out because I will be looking for models very SOON!!

Until then,

I think we have a BABY BOOM! {Sugar Land Katy Houston Humble Spring Newborn Portrait Photographer}

You baby-making people have kept me VERY busy!! LOL. And I have been able to keep my baby fever at bay by holding your yummy newborns! Because I have been so busy, I have not kept up with my blogging (as usual!). So here is a sneak at what I’ve been up to!

P.S. If you or anyone you may know is expecting, please send them my way so I can get them on my calendar ASAP!

One Year Birthday SMASH! {Houston / Humble / Conroe TX Children Portrait Photography}

I admit it! I am a HORRIBLE blogger! I do my best to keep up, but between my busy bodied boys, photography, being a mom and wife, I fall far far behind!

I have had a few Birthday smash sessions to keep me busy this month! And aren’t I a lucky lady to again have such cute clients!! They are the BEST and make this job so much fun and worthwhile! Plus they have some AWESOME mommies and daddies!!

Thank you all so much for blessing me and helping me support my family! I appreciate it from the bottom of my heart!

Not many of you know, but my hubby recently lost his job. In the chaos of it all, he decided to launch his own shop. Hence MORE chaos! Thus, we have been relying on my little gig to get us through these past couple of months. So please know that you are helping support my family! THANK YOU!!!

I’m gonna leave you with a little bit of sweet goodness!!

Once Upon a Time

It has been too long since I have blogged! There is so much to tell, but I never seem to find the time!

Last night, my church {Grace Church of Humble} held their first WONDER event of the year. I have been a member for nearly 6 years and this was the first time I attended. I have been missing out! The event’s theme this year is “Once Upon a Time”, based on the scripture Esther 4:14 “…And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”

Amazing theme, right? Well,  when this blessed girl was asked to do the pictures to incorporate for the events, I immediately jumped on it! I love whimsical themes. I love to play with the sun and make my photos look like they were taken in a magical place. I was so nervous because this would be the biggest shoot I have ever done and especially because I did not want to disappoint or let down my sisters.

I don’t think I slept that night as I dreamed of all the pictures I hoped to capture the next morning. When morning came, It went off without a hitch! The ladies were dressed beautifully, the girls were cuter than I imagined and everyone was ready to have some fun and let me do my thing!

I am not one to boast, but I do think they turned out better than I could have imagined! What do you think?

Beautiful Mommy-to-be {Houston / Pearland Maternity Photographer}

Meet Mrs. Coleman. She is a beautiful and glowing mommy-to-be.  33 weeks and carrying that baby perfectly! This was one of my favorite sessions! This couple was so down to earth and willing to try just about anything and everything. I was a little hesitant to make her walk so much, but she didn’t flinch. She said the exercise was good for her! She will be delivering her baby naturally. Being a HUGE proponent of natural childbirth, she and I hit it off right away!  I am so excited for you to welcome your baby girl in just 7 short weeks!

Thank you so much for allowing me to capture this beautiful moment in your lives!!

Hi. I’m Owen. {Houston/Humble Area Newborn Photographer}

Getting into this business has been a hard, but wonderful experience. But along the way, I’ve met some incredible people. One of those people, Shara Tietz, a fellow photographer has become one of my best friends. She has decided to take a break from taking on new clients, so she has been blessing me with all her referrals.

That’s how I met this sweet little man!

 He was such a sweet boy during the shoot. Hardly made a wimper and slept the whole time!

Aren’t those cheeks so kissable? Ahhhh, this little man sure gave me baby fever!

I will leave you with this last image.  I have always wanted to get this shot! Thank you little Owen! I know your mommy and daddy are so proud of you!!

About me

When I started this business a couple of years ago, I had no earthly idea what I was doing or what I’d be getting myself into! It has been an amazing roller coaster full of many life lessons. Most of them have been wonderful but I’ve had a share of heartache too.

I chose the name Essence Captured because I wanted the name to represent something bigger than me. Essence means life. I believe with my whole being that life is a gift from God.

No. Matter. What.

I want every image I take to represent LIFE.

I also want to cherish the moments I have with my clients while shooting their session. I’m so honored that many of my clients have become my personal friends. I have built relationships with them and their children. When that happens, my job is worth it.

Those friends have stood by me and watched me grow. Without them, I wouldn’t be Essence Captured Photography.

So who Am I?

First, and foremost, I am a Christ-follower. He is the center of my life. He is the center of my relationships. Without Him, I am nothing. He is the spark you see in my images. He is the beautiful smile on a child’s face. He is the innocence in a child’s eyes. He is the sun flare that I LOVE to capture. He is LIFE!

Am I perfect? No, not at all. So far from it! I fall down (ALOT) and He picks me back up! But because he is my world, I try to see this world through his eyes. I try to LOVE everyone I meet. I try to see past their imperfections. I try to give second chances. I try my BEST to be like HIM.

Secondly, I am a mother and a wife. My family is the only other reason I wake up every morning. They are the Loves of my life. They are my biggest fans. They give me purpose.  They bring me so much joy. There are no words to describe the LOVE I have for my family.

Thirdly, I am human. I have feelings and emotions. I have the same basic needs as anyone else. I love to be liked. I hate to be disliked. I am a people pleaser. I am a loyal friend. Very few times have I met an enemy. When I do, it hurts.

Somewhere down the list, I am a photographer. I enjoy giving people high-quality images. It brings me joy to see the happiness on their faces when they look at a photograph. What started off as a hobby, has now grown into a legitimate business. I am not looking to get rich. The money I make goes back into the business to purchase better equipment, props, office supplies, editing software and etc.

Photography is not so cut and dry like everyone likes to think. It takes time and $$ to plan a shoot, travel to the shoot, shoot the shoot, drive back from the shoot, and edit the shoot. If you look at how much time I spend doing business and the rates I get paid, you will soon realize I am making less than minimum wage. This isn’t being said so that my clients will pay me more! I’m saying it only because some people don’t truly appreciate the time and $$ that goes into their images.

I’ve read blogs like this, and thought, “Wow, I’m so glad that’s not me!” But that’s the reality of this business. I was so new and naive. I always try to see the good in everyone. I open up my heart and become vulnerable. I expect everyone to do the right thing. When it doesn’t happen, I’m so shocked.

So, I know who I am. Now I’m learning who I Am NOT.

I am not a door mat. Though I am quiet and reserved, I am strong and secure. I will not allow someone to bully me. I will not allow someone to disrespect my time or my business. Nor will I disrespect your time or business. I choose to do this because I have an honest passion to capture memories for people. But I won’t allow someone to take advantage of my kindness or generosity. That person may feel like the whole world revolves him/her, but truly it does not. My world revolves around my God and my Family. As should his/hers.

Those that know me, know all this about me. I’m mostly writing this to confirm what I believe about myself. I’m so blessed to have so many friends and fans. I am humbled by your support. I pray that you will find favor in all that you pursue and that God will bless you just as He has blessed me.

Much Love,
